Introducing Summaries: From 25 Bulletins, One Curated Briefing
Matt White
Today we're launching Summaries, a new way for agencies to gather related bulletins into a single briefing and get it to exactly the people who need it.
BLTN exists to get the right intelligence to the right person at the moment it matters. BLTN made it easy to post and share that intelligence in one place. SmartLink went further, automatically surfacing patterns and linking related bulletins across cases and jurisdictions. Summaries is the next step: a stream of separate bulletins becomes one clear briefing, built for the people who need it.
Agencies generate dozens of bulletins a day. Summaries gathers the critical ones into a single briefing — so a patrol district starts a shift knowing what's happening on their beat, and a task force has every bulletin on their case in one place. It can go to outside partners too.
It's another piece of what BLTN is building: a single source where agencies create, connect, and act on the intelligence they already have.
One briefing, built in minutes
Select the bulletins for a briefing and BLTN drafts a headline and summary to start from. Edit the narrative, choose the recipients, and send. For briefings that repeat, an analyst sets one up once — what it covers, who it goes to — and from then on BLTN pulls the right bulletins together each time, ready to review and send. A district can have a fresh briefing every morning without rebuilding it from scratch.
Briefings reach people wherever they work. Patrol officers get a push notification and read on mobile before roll call. People without a BLTN account — a partner agency, an oversight official — get a secure email and a link, no login required.
Agencies use it three main ways:
Shift briefings give patrol one clear rundown of what matters in their district, ready before roll call.
Case files bring every bulletin tied to an investigation into one brief, shared with the task force or command.
Command digests give leadership a standing read on the whole agency, without working the feed.
Built for sensitive intelligence
Summaries runs on BLTN's permissions. Before a briefing sends, a check flags any recipient who shouldn't see a bulletin inside it. Distribution is CJIS-compliant, and every briefing stays on the record — one source of truth, not a thread of outdated PDFs in an inbox.
It's the next step toward law enforcement that runs on real intelligence infrastructure, where the intelligence an agency already has reaches the people who need it, in a form they can act on — not buried in inboxes and shared drives.
